Drag Racing for Dummies

The name of this blog is Nitro and Nail Polish...obviously.  The reasoning behind the name comes from what Cody and I love.  Nail polish needs no explanation.  But nitro?  What is it? What does that even mean?

Often times when someone hears "drag racing" they react with a sign and a "oh...that's where they drive straight right...?" Yes, the car is driven straight - but there is so much more to what the team does than a car that go down a track.

Cody works for a professional drag racing team.  He services the cylinder heads for the DHL Funny Car for Kalitta Motorsports.  Team Kalitta is one of several teams part of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) series.  The team travels across the country competing in races against other teams.

The car Cody and the rest of the team work on is called a funny car.  Yes, ha ha.  To a new drag racing fan, a funny car might not look very special.  But this car is capable of reaching speeds of 310 miles an hour in a matter of four seconds.  It is fueled by a mixture of nitromethane (nitro) and methanol.  Oh one more thing, it is very, very loud.  Ear plugs are more a must at a drag race.

Cody loves what he is doing with the Kalitta team and I love seeing him working in a field he loves.

Oh, and he's on TV.  Naturally, I record all the races and take pictures of him! :)
